In Primary 4, pupils grow from strength to strength, showing increasing independence and confidence in their learning. They eagerly consolidate previously taught skills and capabilities, while also demonstrating a greater willingness to attempt more challenging activities. At this stage, children begin to develop a deeper understanding of responsibility and the importance of making good choices. 

Primary 4 is a vibrant and exciting year, full of opportunities to practise and refine a wide variety of skills, explore creativity, and take safe, meaningful risks in their learning. 

Literacy and Numeracy continue to be supported and extended through engaging programmes such as Mathletics and Accelerated Reader, which pupils thoroughly enjoy. These platforms enable children to work at their own pace, track their progress, and celebrate their achievements through rewards and certificates. 

Pupils become more confident readers, writers, and problem-solvers as they build on strong foundations developed in earlier years. 

Primary 4 pupils take part in the Core NI PE Programme, which provides enjoyable and structured physical development activities. Children participate in PE at least twice weekly, with a balance of indoor and outdoor sessions. These experiences help pupils develop coordination, teamwork, resilience, and a positive attitude towards health and fitness. 

ICT plays an exciting and meaningful role in Primary 4 learning. Pupils explore:

Children benefit from twice-weekly visits to our wellresourced ICT suite, supported further by a class set of iPads which enhance learning across the curriculum. 

Primary 4 pupils take part in Activity Based Learning linked to each new topic, promoting collaboration, creativity, problemsolving and handson exploration. 

Weekly visits to our Outdoor Learning Area offer exciting opportunities for imaginative, active, and practical learning experiences, which pupils deeply enjoy. 

Primary 4 includes many memorable learning opportunities beyond the classroom: 

• A visit to Armagh Palace Stables provides an immersive World War II experience, enabling children to engage in rich, experiential learning. 
• In the summer term, pupils explore the Carrickfergus area and spend time at the local seaside, taking part in fun, educational activities on the beach. 

These experiences help deepen topic understanding, build teamwork skills, and create lasting memories.
