We are delighted to accept children into our school from all over the local area. We admit children from many different nurseries and year groups in the local area and further afield. Sometimes children come to us as part of a group and other times children join us by themselves. Some Primary 1 pupils even come from a different country! Either way they are most welcome at the Model and settle very quickly!
In order to help our new Primary 1 pupils settle in well we do the following:
Hold an Open Day in January where children and parents can visit the school
Offer private tours of the school throughout December, January and June
Visit the nurseries and playgroups that children are coming from so that they can get to know us and us them
Hold an induction day in June so pupils can meet their teachers
Hold a drop in session in August before children start
Have Baseline meetings with parents so we can get to know your family individually
Arrange a staggered start where children are in two groups for their first few days of school
Primary 1 children attend school until 12.15pm in August / September and then they are in school until 1.55pm from October onwards
Every Primary 1 child will be paired with a Primary 7 buddy; this is a magical friendship that is built on throughout the Primary 1 year
Our private on site daycare, Sleepy Hollow also have their own induction arrangements and many of our Primary 1 pupils start with them over the summer. This is great because they get to know the school building before starting school!
