Primary 5 marks an exciting stage in your child’s learning journey, as they enter Key Stage 2, where pupils continue to grow in confidence, independence and responsibility. Building on the strong foundations laid in Key Stage 1, children are encouraged to challenge themselves, think deeply and take increasing ownership of their learning.
Within literacy and numeracy, pupils continue to develop key skills that support their progress across the curriculum. We place a strong emphasis on comprehension skills, extended writing, mental maths and problem‑solving. Learning is active, engaging and purposeful, encouraging children to enjoy reading through Accelerated Reader, communicate clearly and apply their mathematical thinking to real-life contexts.
As part of The World Around Us, children investigate a wide range of engaging topics that encourage thoughtful questioning. Their learning is enriched through practical activities, discussion, research and creative tasks. Children also have opportunities to express themselves through art, music and drama, while building confidence and resilience through PE and outdoor learning.
In Primary 5, children become responsible and reflective learners. Pupils learn to work collaboratively, show kindness and respect, and take greater responsibility for their actions. We guide children to become independent learners who can reflect on their progress and share their ideas confidently.
Above all, our goal in Primary 5 is to create a positive, nurturing and engaging environment where every child is encouraged to reach their potential. We want pupils to come to school each day with enthusiasm and to finish the year feeling proud of their achievements.
