Primary 7 is a special and exciting year for our pupils as they reach the final stage of their primary school journey. It is a year full of growth, confidence building and preparation for the move to post-primary school. Pupils are encouraged to become more independent, organised and confident in themselves and their abilities.
In Term1, preparation for the SEAG assessment is a focus in Literacy and Numeracy teaching for pupils to whom this is suited and for others, small group tailored literacy and numeracy learning is provided for those who choose not to sit these tests for any reason. As P7 children continue to develop their literacy and numeracy skills throughout the year, they do so through engaging, challenging and enjoyable learning experiences that ensure they are well prepared for Year 8.
Through The World Around Us, pupils explore interesting and meaningful topics that spark curiosity and encourage them to ask questions about the world and its history. Learning is brought to life through practical activities, group & project work, research, discussion, expert visitors and our Titanic Dress Up Day. Pupils also enjoy expressing themselves through art, music and drama, while developing teamwork, leadership and fitness through PE and outdoor learning activities.
Primary 7 is also an important year for personal and social development. Pupils learn to work well with others, show respect and kindness, and take on greater responsibility within the school. All our P7 pupils enjoy having opportunities to develop leadership skills and act as role models for younger childrenas prefects, Playground Pals, P1 buddies and Digital Leaders to name but a few roles around school. Our Primary 7 residential is also a milestone opportunity for our P7 pupils to put into practice their developing skills of independence & self-management.
Above all, our aim in Primary 7 is to create a happy, supportive and encouraging environment where every child feels valued and confident. We want pupils to leave Primary 7 feeling proud of their achievements, full of positive memories, well-prepared and excited about the next stage of their learning journey.
