Art & Design

At Carrick Model children are offered opportunities to explore and create through a variety of artistic mediums, including:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Printmaking
  • 3D Construction
  • Textiles
  • Malleable Materials

We encourage children to develop a broad range of skills in a strongly experiential and supportive setting. Exploration, creativity, and self-expression are at the heart of every activity, allowing children to grow in confidence and ability.

Children are introduced to the work of many artists and craftspeople. They are encouraged to study, reflect, and make personal responses to these works, deepening their understanding of artistic traditions and contemporary practices.

The process of making and responding is valued as highly as the finished product. Through experimentation and reflection, children learn that creativity is a journey, not just an outcome.

All children at the Model are encouraged to:

  • Take pride in their achievements
  • Develop aesthetic awareness within school, their community and beyond
  • Appreciate the role of Art & Design in shaping culture and identity.

At the Model we believe that every child can be an artist because it can be expressed in so many different forms.
