Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU)

PDMU focuses on encouraging each child to become personally, emotionally, socially effective, to lead healthy, safe and fulfilled lives and to become confident, independent and responsible citizens, making informed and responsible choices throughout their lives.

Our School Motto; ‘Aspiring to learn, care and grow together’ and our CMPS Values are in line with the requirements of the NI Curriculum. Our aims are to provide a nurturing and enriching environment where we foster a culture of kindness, empathy, mutual respect and encouragement to be our best. Together we build a safe and strong school where everyone belongs and thrives.

Alongside other learning materials our school is part of the Barnardo’s programme, PATHS. The PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) Programme is a comprehensive, evidence-based, school-based currciculum for 4-11 year olds designed to foster social-emotional skills like self-control, emotional awareness, and problem-solving. There is a very specific structure to PATHS lesson in each year group and alongside Assemblies create a very comprehensive childhood development programme.

Our Pastoral Care policy also compliments our PDMU Curriculum with the aim of fostering an empathetic and inclusive atmosphere where every pupil is valued, inspired and challenged to achieve their full potential.

As a school, our Preventative Curriculum aims to keep children safe and teach them how to keep themselves and others safe at their age and stage of development.
